Maurice Roucel
Maurice Roucel is a French perfumer who has worked for both major perfume houses and as an independent creator. He is best known for his work with Symrise, where he created some of the house's most iconic fragrances.. He has also created several bestselling fragrances for brands such as Christian Dior, and Guerlain.
Roucel was born in 1947 in the French town of Grasse, the global center of the perfume industry. He began his career working in the lab at Jean Patou, where he learned the basics of perfume creation. He later moved to Firmenich, where he rose to the position of a chief perfumer. In 1992, he left Firmenich to join Symrise, where he has since created some of the company's most successful fragrances. Roucel is known for his use of unorthodox materials in his fragrances, which often give his creations a unique and memorable character. He has said that he enjoys pushing the boundaries of what is possible in perfume and that he is always searching for new ways to surprise and delight those who wear his fragrances.
Roucel's work has earned him numerous awards, including the prestigious Prix Francois Coty in 2004. In 2010, he was inducted into the Fragrance Foundation Hall of Fame.
